Merry Christmas

The following card is my entry for this week's Merry Christmas themed Simon Says Challenge. I used my Candy Cane Stripe CB folder to emboss the red background, some DP from Basic Grey, ribbon from Savvy n Sassy, a few dashes of stickles & a heavy dose of stampedous glitter for my Penny Black snowman.

I really do think its time we get a new camera. I'm just never happy with how my photos turn out no matter how many different things I try. My hubby & I had decided to buy one this Boxing day but I still can't decide. So many things one needs to spend $$ on (shingles, new tires, etc). I'm sure he may be able to convince me if he finds a really good price on a really great quality camera. I have to explain... as Boxing day is my guy's absolute favourite day of the year. If you're not familiar with this Canadian tradition, it's like Black Friday is the US, the biggest shopping day of the year for sales. The electronic stores always have "door crasher" specials where some items are deeply discounted but each store will only have an extremely limited quantity. So each year, my sweetie scours the flyers (now its the internet) planning which store he'll go to. He's NOT a morning person, he has to hit the snooze button on the alarm at least 4 times each morning before getting up, yet Christmas Day he sets the alarm for 3:15am and goes to sleep. When it goes off at that crazy hour he's up & out the door like a shot off to go stand in line outside until the store opens their doors (usually 7:00am). We DON'T live in a warm climate but to him it doesn't matter what the weather is like that year. About 2 or 3 years ago the temperature was -20C (about 0 Fahrenheit) & it doesn't deter him. To me the funniest thing is he just loves the adventure of it all. The last 2 years he hasn't purchased anything that was for us. We really didn't need anything so picked up items for family & friends. Not to worry they pay for the goods :-) I love his yearly ritual.

Cheers!

Basic Grey Challenge Week 9

The following is my entry for week 9 of the Basic Grey Challenge. This week's challenge was a sketch where I used a Changito stamp and used Basic Grey porcelain paper & glazed brads from the porcelain collection as well. Enjoy!

Just Ducky!!!

Welcome & I hope you're doing "Just Ducky"!
I decided to have fun and be whimsical when I made the following card "Just Ducky" to enter for both the BasicGrey Challenge week 8 & the Simon Says Challenge this week.

The Simon Says Challenge for this week was Animal Antics so I chose a "Just Ducky" theme with this quirky duck as the mascot for the theme.
The BasicGrey Challenge for week 8 was Glitz and Bling - I added glitter to the edges of my orange border, put loads of turquoise glitter on my shooting star and added a jewelled brad at it's end. I also added dew drops for the ducks eyes and baby blue stickles above the orange border. The final touch was using white bazzill bling cardstock was the border for the card.
  • For Basic Grey product I used 4 different papers from the Lime Rickey collection and also the rub on ducky is from the Lime Rickey collection as well.
In all it was a fun card to make and I will be giving it to my 17 yr old brother who is having oral surgery to remove all 4 of his wisdom teeth. I'm hoping he'll be back on his feet in no time & not have those nasty chipmunk cheeks for too long. Ahh, I remember those days a good decade & change ago... fun stuff ;-)
Cheers,
Lisa

Simon Says Challenge - Owl

I'm back from my holiday & my life is sorted back into it's normal order.
Currently I'm busy at work making Christmas cards for my Grandma. I decided to take a short break to make this card for a friend who needs a little love. What better time to tackle the Simon Says Challenge than this week with Domi's wonderful sketch.
The following is my creation:
  • Paper & ribbon, Cosmo Cricket - Earth Love collection
  • Crystal owl from Basic Grey
  • Flowers are handmade with a chocolate pearl accent in each centre
  • Doodlebug rub-on letters
Cheers!

Sweet 16

My fabulous little sister is turning 16 shortly, which is hard to believe, & I have made this card to celebrate the occasion. She is a wonderful girl full of love, warmth, & spirit. I can't tell you how much I love her and how proud I am of her. Let's just say there are many, many years separating the 2 of us.
This 2nd photo gives a better idea of the true colour of the card:

Thank You

I am very happy with this card. I was thinking tonight I should really post one of my layouts to the blog. I feel like I want more practice 1st. There just hasn’t been one that has felt right for the blog yet. It will come in due time I’m sure.

In the meantime, I have 6 birthday cards due soon & we’re off to the UK for vacation in just 7 days for 3 weeks! Yeah!!!

No layouts in the near future for me ;-)

Cheers!

Happy Birthday Heidi!!!

I made this card for both the Simon Says Stamp Challenge & also the Basic Grey Challenge. I hope you enjoy my creation as I know I had fun making it. My only stumbling block was creating the image. I have yet to work with stamps & markers so I stamped the cupcake & used stickles as the main decoration for it. I can't say if I'm sure I like how the cupcake turned out but it is always good to try something new :-)
  • The Simon Says Stamp Challenge was a layout challenge using a fabulous sketch by Iris. I just had to give this one a try this week as the prize looks FANTASTIC and it was in support of Heidi's birthday. I made a birthday card - I hope you like it Heidi!!! The picture of that cake on the blog was too funny for words. My guess is Heidi has a great sense of humour and I love that!
  • The Basic Grey Challenge was a colour combo using the following 3 colours:
Brown Yellow Pink
For BG product I used brown brads, elite paper from the sultry collection & straw paper from the urban prairie collection.

Happy Weekend All!!!

New Card

I made this card for my friend who loves black, if you looked in her wardrobe 70% of what you would see would be black. She also has a love for things with skulls on them so I had to include 1 on the card as a special touch. The style of this card is a departure from what I am used to so it was challenging but I had fun with it.

New Card

This card was made to celebrate the 80th birthday of my husband's grandmother. I used papers from Basic Grey's Wisteria line and I am very happy with the completed product. The photos don't quite do it justice but I posted it to my blog none the less. Happy Tuesday!

A 3rd Card in 1 Day!!!

It was my birthday recently so you'll see a couple thank you cards posted in short order. The saying goes... necessity is the mother of invention... so I bring you the 1st of my thank you "inventions" and I also had to include a picture of the gift I received. It was such a surprise and delight to receive. I think I'd even say it might be my new favourite type of bouquet.
FABULOUS GIFT...

The Time Has Finally Come...

It is a small miracle but I have 2 cards to post to my blog. Since my last post I have also done a birthday card in addition to these 2 but it was completed last minute & I didn't have time to take a photo. I also didn't feel at the time that it was photo worthy. Thinking back now, I wish I had taken the time to grab a quick snapshot.
Oh well, I following 2 cards are complete so a blog post they shall be...

This card is part of a Basic Grey card kit that I jazzed up ever so slightly.
I feel iffy about this one. I'm undecided about it's success but my feeling is that a lot of my hesitation is due to the fact that this card was born of my own creative mind and I didn't use any other ideas as a jumping off place to start. Call it creative insecurity... so for that reason alone I am very proud of it.

Photo Fabulous - Lemonade Purchases

New Basic Grey Lines

Mmmm pure bliss was the emotion I felt Wednesday night as I logged onto my email and read the “What’s New” update from my LSS to discover they had the new BG line’s June Bug & Lemonade in stock. From the moment I had stumbled across the info BG was releasing 2 new lines & they were set to ship mid-June I have been waiting with baited breath. Just ask my husband. I actually squealed after telling him the news. I promptly checked the website of my favourite LSS, as they have a storewide 30% off sale this whole week, to see if they rec'd the product. Lets just say my hubby should feel extremely lucky I was able to contain my excitement as I felt like soda can that had been shaken and someone had just cracked me open.

Needless to say Thursday was a shop, shop, shopping day for me. I was in 7th heaven. Beautiful stuff. NOW!!!!! Let’s get down to business…

Signing off to go be a busy beaver. Happy weekend!

Scrapper's Block

Everyone is familiar with the term writer's block.  Well, I feel like I have scrapper's block and it is driving me crazy.  I am unable to tell if I am truly experiencing a "block" or if I am unable to keep focused on the task at hand.  There is also a part of me that feels I have spent too much time lately looking at layouts of very experienced scrapper's. This has left me feeling overwhelmed and intimidated. For days I'll pick up my pictures and fiddle with my chosen papers but go no further. I sit with my project staring me in the face and all I end up doing is organizing my supplies.

MY GOAL FOR TODAY: Complete one page of my layout for the current booking I am working on. I will post my result tomorrow as incentive for myself to produce something.

I have to run now... got to get scrappin'...

1st Post

So what to post 1st? Well it turns out I chose the only project I have a pic of. Ha!
I can't take credit for idea, only it's execution, but my husband did say it was the card he liked best of all he has seen me do.

It is a card I made for my Grandmother using paper from Basic Grey's Wisteria line.  When Basic Grey released 2 new lines in May this being one the other, Lime Rickey.  I almost dismissed this one as too pretty for my tastes but after making 4 cards using the Wisteria paper it has really grown on me. I even purchased some paper as part of a collection to one day do a personal inspirational scrapbook project for myself.
